Jakub Kolas is our glory and honour, he is the great national poet and his works make our literature richer. His poems became a valuable acquisition of the world literature.

"All fifty years that he dedicated his literature work he wrote one book. Its name is the life of common people."

Jarub Kolas was born on the 22 of October 1886 in Minsky district. Jakub Kolas didn't descent from the top. His father was a peasant. That's why his poetry is devoted to the life of ordinary people, to their work, dreams, feelings and hopes. The main ideas of his poetry were the great love to his native land, social justice and philosophy. The life of his mother country and freedom of the people were the problems which troubled him from his youth.



Jakub Kolas' poems sound like an anthem to the Belorussian people. In majority of his poems Kolas tried to show a common Belorussian man, who suffered from hard life. In some poems on the shape of a peasant he tried to show a protest against humiliation and degradation.

He tried to awake in oppressed people a sense of their dignity and a resolution of strive for their independence. The poet believed in freedom of the nation, he believed that his native land would not perish, that better life would come to his land and his people. He appealed people to struggle for their freedom, for their better life.



Jakub Kolas belongs to those people of the world with whose names breaking moments in life of masses are connected. So he was the great man in our history and culture. He must be honored and remembered by all generations as we don't know what our life would be like without his creative work.

And now I would like to tell some words about his works. He left us a lot of poems and works. All his works are masterpieces and with the help of his works we can know about life of people in Kolas' times, about their dreams and troubles, problems and joyes. I always read Kolas' poems with great pleasure and interest. He wrote such poems as:"A voice of land", "My land", "To forests of Belarus" and others. But my favourite poem is "Simon-musician". This poem is about young boy, who was forced to earn for life by himself. He was a wonderful musician, so he played violin and got money. We can read about his adventures, about love to beautiful girl Ganna from this poem. I was deeply impressed by poem "Simon-musician" and I advice to read it everyone.
