Why do people lie?

Every time we lie we think that it’s a trifle, that nobody will mark the deception. I suppose there is no man in the world who has never lied during his or her life. There are lots of reasons for telling lies. Firstly, some people want to seem better than they are in reality; they embroider the stories – they are keen on making an impression on others. Secondly, our world is full of swindlers who want to become rich and make a profit out of somebody else’s work using fraud. To tell the truth, we also lie when we want to justify our actions. Also there are some people who are fond of slandering, distorting facts to make others’ reputation worse. As a rule, such people are simply envious.

Telling lies can be a dangerous thing. One has to remember that the deception will come out anyway. Then, if you keep lying you can easily forget what you falsely said before. Your conscience will feel guilty if you are a bit of an honest person. So to deceive is not good but I don’t object to telling “white lies” sometimes. I think we shouldn’t think up different unbelievable stories. But in some cases it’s better simply not to tell the truth. If you don’t want to hurt people you love or if you deal with people with a diseased heart, for instance, don’t speak straight from the shoulder. I want to add that “white lies” or other ways of deceiving are not justified when you are trying to solve a really serious problem.

Sometimes we decide to lie or to tell the truth but some people have to lie because their profession includes deceiving. Firstly, some figures of show business add to their life stories various piquant details in order to spread a scandalous rumor to attract attention. Secondly, some yellow press journalists distort facts to make sensations for the rating of their publications. Usually people like hot news about celebrities. Politicians can also lie in some cases when they promise to do impossible things in order to win elections. Actually, lawyers also lie to win trials; advertisers deceive the public with false claims. The list is endless.

As time goes by, the world changes, progress advances. But the representatives of humanity are as trustful as they’ve been throughout the existence of mankind. It’s easy to offer different ideas to people but it would be better to live without deceiving.
