Beating children at school was a common thing in Russia and it is necessary to say that if our country could boast of a number of well-educated people. Today in some countries, in the USA, for example, a special organization protecting childrenu2019s rights will imprison any adult for any physical punishment of a child. But why only for physical abuse? Shouting and the shrill voice of a teacher can result in a not very pleasant conversation with the police or other similar authorities. Rather funny, isnu2019t it?

It is not by chance that physical punishment was not forbidden in Russia before and, to tell the truth, I would vote for its adoption even today. Small children are creatures who are not able to realize why it is necessary to do this and not to do that. It is not because they are stupid and incapable of listening to adultsu2019 advice u2013 it is just their lack of experience.

For instance, how can you make a child read? Go on and try to tell him or her about his future professional success, about the necessity to provide for his family and so on. Do you really think a 3-year-old baby will understand your intentions to completely protect him from dangers waiting for him? I personally have some doubts.

Still you need an instrument to influence the child and physical pain, in my opinion, is the most effective way to achieve your goals (notice, not the goals of the child, as he hasnu2019t got any in the beginning).

What should your wonderful child be punished for? At first, for everything: for not answering you when you call him, for rudeness, for dirty clothes he spoiled by sitting on a painted bench without paying attention to it, etc. But, I think the child should never be punished if he fell and hurt himself. It would be better to kiss him, to caress and only when he is calmed down to ask him to be more careful.

Have you ever heard about different approaches in education, which are connected to the age of children? It is said that until 3 years old you (the adult) are the slave of the child (as you have to clean up after him, sacrifice sleep at night and so on), from 3 to 12 it is the child who becomes your slave and, finally, in the third period you are friends. No doubt, it is difficult to achieve perfect results but if parents try and work hard the first 12 years, they will surely be rewarded and they will see that 12 years is nothing in comparison with the life that is before them u2013 a life when your children and you are best friends.
