Some people donu2019t even think about it, others canu2019t live peacefully because of its existence in our society… I am talking about racism. A lot of people live without knowing anything about the fact that scores of people are dying because of racism every year in many countries. Many lives are crippled by different racist movements. The existence of racism is even observed in such spheres as politics and mass media. If we think about some events connected with racism that happened in recent years, and are still happening now, we will see how important this problem is.
If we look through the statistical research which was carried out by the u201cSOVAu201d center, we will see that Moscow and St. Petersburg are cities with the greatest numbers of murders due to racism. Only in these two cities during 2005 there were 53 attacks which included seven murders. In all, eighteen racist hate murders took place in Russia by the end of 2006.
In October 2005 there was an attack on the 20-year-old Vu An Tuyen, a student of the Polytechnical University. About ten ou2019clock in the evening, when he was on his way to the dormitory, 15 men with shaved heads and in black jackets assaulted him. They cruelly beat him and left him to die. There were five knife-wounds in his body. Another terrible attack was made by ten men in 2005 on Catholic Christmas Eve. As a result, a Cameroonian student of a Russian university was killed. He died of a throat wound. These are just two examples of murders that are happening over and over again. People are killing only because of someoneu2019s u201cwrongu201d nationality or skin colour.
It is horrible that many of the killers are not even aged 14. That is one of the main reasons why a lot of murders canu2019t be convicted. Even if they are convicted, nobody wants to recognize the importance of racism. Most of the times the police prefer to ignore such u201chooliganismu201d.
When I was writing this article I faced phrases that were really shocking to me, such as u201cRacism is right, because racism is the will of natureu201d. Racists are doing the work of nature, they u201csave the most important creaturesu201d u2013 as if for the survival and evolution of one race other people have to suffer from hatred and insults or even have to die. It is terrible to realize that people with such opinions are part of our society.
Nobody has the right to discriminate against people because of his/her nationality. Why are so many murders happening nowadays? What should be done to prevent them? There are too many questions without solutions. So letu2019s try together to do something to change our world and the people surrounding us.
