The XXI Olympic Winter Games have already merged into history and we can estimate them fairly. The Olympic Games were held over 17 days from February 12-28, 2010, in Vancouver, Canada. Approximately 2,500 athletes from 82 countries participated in this Olympics. The total cost of the Games made 6 billion dollars.

These Olympic Games were the third Olympics hosted in Canada, but this time Canadians have managed to come off with flying colours. Canadians won 14 gold medals, more than any other country, though it was Americans who won the greatest amount of medals in general.

However, I’m convinced that the XXI Olympics witnessed more failures than glories. Several hours before the official opening ceremony Georgian luger, Nodar Kumaritashvili, died as a result of a crash during his practice run. The opening ceremony faced some technical glitches and problems: only three out of four poles came out of the ground. But it’s necessary to admin that the organizers of the Olympic Games managed to put a new face on this technical problem during the closing ceremony: the clown, dressed as an electrician, appeared in the center of the arena and repaired the broken pole. And also this Olympics proved to be the worst for our team. Russian athletes managed to win only 15 medals in Vancouver; it’s a far cry from the glory of former Olympic Games.

To my mind in comparison with the previous Olympics in Turin this Olympic Games were not so successful in both technical and entertaining aspects. But nevertheless they have helped many sportsmen to show their worth.
