Animal rights, also known as animal liberation, is an idea which says that animals should be given the same fundamental rights that human beings have. Supporters of this idea consider that animals are to be viewed as members of the society; they shouldn’t be used as clothing, food, entertainment and research subjects.
It goes without saying that the idea of animal rights has many adherents but there are a lot of opponents as well. The supporters of this idea place an emphasis on humanism. They affirm that animals are also creatures that not only eat, breathe and emit sounds but they have feelings. Animals can brighten the life of a human being; it’s a well-known fact that many people start keeping animals because they feel lonely and animals become real friends for them. How such people can stand the idea that someone experiments on animals?
But there is another point of view. Opponents of animal liberation are sure that people can violate animal rights for the sake of the humankind. For instance, we all use medicines from time to time. Can we imagine the harm that medicines would cause people's health if they were not tested on animals?
I believe that people should take care of animals. To my mind we can refuse to wear clothes made from animals; we can also limit the amount of meat we eat, but I think that we can hardly avoid experiments made on animals. Nevertheless, we should know when to stop.
